Social Skills Training

Providing families with evidence-based social skills training to address social challenges as a whole and work to teach adaptive and socially significant goals and skills.

The goal of social skills training is to equip  children, with the necessary tools and strategies to navigate social interactions effectively. Through structured and individualized interventions, social skills programming aims to improve interpersonal relationships, boost self-confidence, and enhance overall social functioning, ultimately enabling children to integrate more successfully into various social environments.

Steps in the Social Skills Training Consult: 

​

1. Initial Assessment (1-2 sessions)

a. Collect detailed information on current social challenges

b. Conduct observations and gather relevant background information (Intake and history)

c. Identify specific social skills training goals (e.g., initiating conversations, maintaining eye contact, understanding social cues)

2. Development of Action Plan

​

a. Identify and prioritize social skill goals

b. Design tailored strategies and solutions

c. Create an individualized plan to address and enhance social skills, focusing on identified goals

​

3. Implementation and Training

​

a. Provide training to family members and caregivers on implementing strategies

b. Role-playing and practice sessions to reinforce skills

c. Utilize evidence-based techniques such as modeling, social stories, and video modeling

​

4. Follow-Up and Monitoring

​

a. Regular check-ins to assess progress

b. Address any challenges and adjust strategies as needed

c. Provide additional techniques and resources if necessary

5. Generalization and Maintenance

a. Support the transfer of skills to various settings (home, school, community)

b. Develop long-term maintenance strategies to ensure sustained success

c. Encourage ongoing practice and reinforcement of skills across different social contexts
